Magic Sense Permissions

As of 4/8/22, Mirabel has a new ability where she can sense if something is magic! She will be able to tell if it is/isn't magic, it's element, strengths/weaknesses, and who the magic is from - if she's familiar with their magic.

In order to use this ability, she has to be in the presence of said magic to know about it and she can't tell if it's magic if the person cloaks it or hides it from her.

If you want Mirabel to know a little bit more about your characters' magic/spells/magical items, just give a little blurb about what she'd find out below!

WHO: The Madrigals and EVERYONE
WHERE: Casita
WHEN: March 11th
WHAT: A big party mingle!!
WARNINGS: It's the Madrigals that's a warning in itself

[There's a network text that goes out early on the 11th. It's from Mirabel! This time with no embarrassing pictures included.]

🥳 Party at la Casa Madrigal!! 🥳 🥳

Come on over! Everyone's invited! We've got food and music and lots of dancing!

[CASITA MINGLE]

[If you choose to accept Mirabel's invitation (don't worry she'll give directions), you'll find a hard-to-miss house next to a coffee shop. It looks definitely out of place, and it only gets stranger as you enter. The building itself is three stories tall, with the kitchen and dining room being on the ground floor.

The main event is being held in the courtyard, which has been decorated with hanging flag banners, flowers, and a variety of plants. No matter where you choose to explore, you can always hear the sound of lively party music coming from somewhere. Out in the courtyard, there's a spread of Colombian food. Arepas, empanadas, ajiaco, tamales, guacamole, roasted corn, coconut rice, fried dough are among the selection you can find spread out on the table. There's a variety of drinks for the adults too! Occasionally, you might catch a Madrigal carrying out food to the table, because there can never be enough food!

But more interesting enough is the second floor. On the second floor are rows of glowing doors, each with a Madrigal and their Gift engraved on it (Mirabel's is not there, of course). Each room leads to one of the Madrigal's bedrooms - a special, very large room tailored to them and their Gift. There is one plain door - that leads to Mirabel's room, the Nursery.

The third floor leads to Bruno's Tower. Enjoy all the stairs and sand if you choose to enter it.

Regardless if you chose to explore or not, you may notice something... weirder, with this already weird house. Like the shutters waving at you as you pass by, or you might find yourself pushed forward by the floor tiles themselves as they shuffle and move you. You might even find the house trying to hang up your coat for you as you come in! And if you're doing anything Casita doesn't approve of? You might find yourself ejected out of the house itself. It would take a lot for that to happen, so explore and party away!

OOC: Feel free to make your own top levels and mingle with each other!]

Character
Name: Mirabel Madrigal
Series: Encanto
Timeline: Post-movie
Canon Resource Links: Here
Personality:

Mirabel is part of the magical Madrigal family, and she's the only one (outside the two men who married into the family) who doesn't have a magical Gift like the rest of her family members. She takes this in stride though and still considers herself part of an amazing family, which she loves dearly. It doesn't matter that she doesn't have magical powers, because she's just as special and the fact that she's part of the family at all is a Gift in itself!

... Or maybe it's not. Mirabel has unyielding optimism and does love her family, but she feels like an outsider without her own Gift. She doesn't really feel like she's part of the family, and that's apparent in the song "the Family Madrigal" where she sings about everyone else in her family BUT excludes herself. Even when the kids ask about her power, she doesn't want to admit she doesn't have one. She just sings about her family all over again while trying to avoid the topic of herself.

To make up for having no Gift, Mirabel tries to work extra hard to make herself part of the family. When the family prepares a party for her cousin Antonio to get his Gift, she's seen trying to make decorations to put around the house as a surprise and trying to help out in her own way. Because this is how she tries to find value within the family, and her attempts are kind of brushed over as she's told by her Abuela to basically stand aside and let everyone else do their part.

Deep down, Mirabel feels kind of jealous of the rest of the family. And though she tries to stay positive and happy all the time, the moment she's left out of a family picture makes it apparent that she's an outsider. During "Waiting on a Miracle" she laments over not getting a Gift and that she wants one too so she can finally be "seen" by the rest of her family.

This feeling of being left out is fueled by the family's matriarch, Mirabel's Abeula. The night when Mirabel didn't get her Gift, she told Mirabel to "make her family proud" and that line stuck with her. When she didn't get her Gift, Abeula turned cold towards her. She always acts like Mirabel is in the way, despite Mirabel's best efforts to prove herself.

When the family's magic candle, the object that gave everyone their powers, threatens to go out, Mirabel takes it upon herself to save the Miracle and everyone's gifts. This is where Mirabel's adventurous nature comes in - she doesn't know how to save the Miracle, but she's willing to do anything to keep her family happy. And there's a slightly selfish reason to it too, that she wants to do something that will finally make her family notice and accept her.

Mirabel is brave, and a little reckless too. When she goes into Bruno's Tower to find out why the Miracle is fading, she has to climb tons of steps. She still tries to stay upbeat and positive about it before breaking down in a tired mess. And then she has to cross a huge gap that would be fatal if she were to fall. She uses a rope to swing across instead of giving up. When the room Bruno has his visions in starts to collapse with sand, she risks her life collecting the fragments of his vision instead of immediately escaping. She does this again when chasing Bruno through the walls in the house, after she finds out he's been hiding in there. There's a huge gap in the floor, and she basically risks falling to jump across.

Out of all the family members, Bruno is probably the one who she relates to the most. He's an outsider, like her, and his Gift caused more harm than good which caused him to eventually "leave" the family when Mirabel was young. But despite "leaving" he ended up living in the walls because he still loved his family, something that Mirabel can relate to. She has no Gift, she can't help, but she still loves her family and wants to do what she can.

Perhaps one of the most strained relationships in the movie is between Mirabel and her older sister, Isabela. Isabela is pretty hard on Mirabel, telling her that she's getting in the way and when Mariano comes over to dinner she tells her that she doesn't "want a word out of her". Her sister is pretty hostile towards her, but Mirabel doesn't really make things easy either. Mirabel isn't so much as jealous, as she is thoroughly annoyed with her sister's seemingly perfect life. Mirabel sees Isabel as selfish and spoiled, and when it turns out that in order to save the magic they have to "hug it out", Mirabel is upset by the idea. When Mirabel goes into Isabela's room to "hug it out", they fight, and it isn't until Isabela's magic grows something "imperfect" that Isabela realizes she doesn't want to be the perfect child either, and Mirabel finally manages to connect with her when she understands that Isabela's life is a facade. It isn't until Mirabel lets herself see more than the perfect Isabela that she can finally have a better relationship with her sister.

Similarly, Mirabel and Abeula end up having an understanding of their own. Mirabel finally confronts her, telling her off for basically putting too much pressure on the family and that Mirabel feels like she'll never be enough for her. The house collapses after their fight, and Mirabel runs off thinking that she basically destroyed everything. Abeula shows up and apologizes, telling Mirabel the story of why she is the way she is, and Mirabel ultimately forgives her for the way she was treated. When she and Abeula with Bruno in tow return to the family, and the family rebuilds their home, Mirabel finally discovers her worth. She doesn't need a Gift, because her real Gift was bringing the family together again. The house is rebuilt, the family's magic is restored, and Mirabel is finally accepted as part of the family.

Character Name: Mirabel Madrigal
Age: 15
Canon: Encanto
Canon point: Post-Movie
History: Here
Personality:

Outgoing: Mirabel sings, plays the accordion, and dances. In the beginning of the film, she sings about her entire family's history. She's always trying to help her family and be involved in some kind of way. When the family is preparing for Antonio to get his gift, Mirabel is seen helping decorate around the house - even though she doesn't have to and despite her family telling her to basically stay out of the way. When the candle responsible for the family's powers starts to go out, Mirabel takes it upon herself to do something about it.

Brave: Mirabel is brave, almost to a fault. When she finds out the Miracle is dying, she vows to do something about it. This leads her to Bruno's Tower, a place where the rest of the family is forbidden to go. She chases after Bruno after discovering that he's been living in the walls, almost falling through a huge gap in the floor during their chase. She's the only one who confronts Abuela about the way she's been treating her and the rest of the Madrigal kids, and after the house begins to collapse, Mirabel risks her safety to rescue the candle while everyone else escapes.

Stubborn: Mirabel doesn't give up, even when it seems that she should. There is nothing that deters her from saving the family's Miracle - even if it means going to places she shouldn't or risking her life in Bruno's Tower. When Bruno's room started to collapse with her inside, instead of immediately fleeing she stayed to collect the fragments of his vision so she could find out what was happening to her family. When she meets Bruno and he tells her he can't do anything else for her, she basically pesters him into having another vision. When she finds out hugging her sister - who hates her - is the only way to save the Miracle, she basically tries to pressure her sister into hugging her until it breaks down into an argument.

Optimistic: Mirabel is painfully optimistic at times. She's extremely proud to be part of the Madrigal family, even if she has no Gift. Even when people feel sorry for her, she tells them that they don't have to worry about her, and that she's fine. Her optimism does have a limit though, and when she's left out of a family picture, she realizes that not even all the optimism in the world can cover up the pain she feels that she just isn't considered a part of her family. She will try to approach everything she can with a positive attitude though, such as singing about her family as she climbs the thousands of steps in Bruno's Tower.

Lonely: Mirabel feels disconnected from the rest of her family, because she's the only Madrigal child with no Gift or power. She desperately wants to be a part of her family, so much so that when the Miracle is dying and Mirabel goes on a mission to save it, she admits that she's partly doing this for her. During her song "Waiting on a Miracle", she laments over having no Gift and that she's waiting to be blessed like the rest of her family, so that she can finally fit in.

Suitability: Mirabel will believe the ADI holds the key to getting home, and she'll be willing to put herself in any situation to get back to her family. She's not family with horror, but she is brave and doesn't break down easily.
Powers/Abilities: Mirabel has no powers, but she can run, jump, and climb over huge gaps. She can also sew, play the accordion, and sing.
Entity Affinity: The Lonely. The biggest source of Mirabel's sadness in the movie is that she doesn't feel connected to her family in any way, that she's basically an outcast. This becomes very apparent when the family takes a family photo without her in it.

Inventory: Just her clothes and her bag!

CR Chart for Kaisou

CR CHART

ATTRACTION
Bruno Madrigal
Bruno is Mirabel's socially awkward uncle. He was her support and guidance while she struggled in her journey to save the family's Miracle, and she's extremely grateful for him. She loves and cares about him, and wants him to be happy - even if that means dragging him out into the outside world for his own good. If he needed her, she'd be there in an instant.
Julieta Madrigal
Julieta is Mirabel's mom! She absolutely loves her and is a little worried that she's here in Kaisou, but a little thankful too. She sure as heck doesn't know what to do on her own.
Camilo Madrigal
Camilo is one of Mirabel's cousins! He's a shapeshifter, although he doesn't have much control of that power right now. Mirabel is a little concerned for his well-being, as he showed up in a pretty rough state. Generally thinks he's a pretty fun person, and hopes that he won't have to be without his parents for too long.
Luisa Madrigal
Luisa is Mirabel's other older sister! Strong and brave, Luisa showed up protecting Mirabel from a doglike monster in her Labyrinth. Mirabel worries about her sister taking on too much again, and hopes she can find a way to relax here in Kaisou and will help her do so.
Isabela Madrigal
Isabela is one of Mirabel's two older sisters! They had a pretty rocky relationship for a long time, but now have a better understanding of each other. Mirabel has seen Isabela's fierceness and would 100% call on her if she was in a jam.
Dolores Madrigal
Dolores is one of Mirabel's cousins. Mirabel sees her as the responsible one, and looks up to her a little bit.
August Villareal
August is Mirabel's new clothing friend! She plans to help him in making clothes, and was there when she realized her true purpose - making tiny costumes for rats apparently. He can also apparently do future readings like her uncle.
Amal Vasiya
Took her in and fed her while she was wandering confused out in the cold, as well as taught her about other worlds. She likes and trusts him pretty well. He also posted a half-naked picture of himself on Kaisou's network which made her feel some kind of way.
Suzume Kujo
An adorable five-year-old girl that Mirabel wants to adopt. She's worried about how well this girl is being taken care of, and is determined to meet her in person. She reminds her a lot of Antonio.
Zelos Wilder
Zelos has been very nice to Mirabel, therefore she's gotten the impression that he's a pretty nice guy. He gave her a pep talk when she was feeling bad about wanting her family.
Jun Kohinata
Rescued her from the cold, took her to a coffee shop while offering to help find her uncle. Seems overall like a really nice guy and someone Mirabel can go to if she's confused about Kaisou... which is a lot of the time. He also saved her from wild Pokemon!
Hunter
What's with this sassy... lost child?
